21st Century Network is BT's next generation fiber optic network, which is an advanced communications network for the future. This will make the company � 10 billion over the next few years to install a fiber optic connection in every house in the country, replacing the old copper phone wire system.

BT said that it was designed to enable broadband users with control, choice and flexibility like never before, it means there will be a unified communications network for all voice and data. This is a small upgrade on the work started in Cardiff in 2006, but much work will begin in January 2008 where BT will start to improve the national network, which they expect to complete by 2011.

Although, there are a lot of criticism about the plan, especially with their plans for high-speed broadband services. Their big plans to improve access to broadband and ADSL2 +, but this is old and has limited broadband technology to 24Mbit / s and the upgrade is completed (2011), this technology will be even more dated then.

Britain has lagged behind in terms of broadband and some may say that BT vision st ISN moving fast enough for a full fiber network at home. The company has said that the savings would be obtained in mundi � 1 billion per year during the transition period is complete, but the promised savings do not act as an incentive to accelerate the launch of the network.

This money well spent? On November 20, 2003, BT launched a 1Mbit / s differentiated charging Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) broadband net service.
